Jim Gamble -ELP Allsky Has Died at Age 60 15AUG2012
Posted on 20 August, 2012, 06:26 am in NEWS

Astronomer / Weatherman Jim Gamble of El Paso, Texas - the operator and owner of ELP Allsky has died at age 60 on 15AUG2012

Although I only knew Jim for a few years, he was a great friend and encourager to me, and was the first person to help me get my equipment and software off the ground.

He was an amazing asset to the Astronomical community, reporting the Meteor news tirelessly, often staying up quite late with me for important events.

He will be greatly missed. My heartfelt condolences to his wife and children. My prayers are with you and your families.

LIVE WebCam Network needs URLs!
Posted on 16 September, 2011, 07:21 am in NEWS

We are trying to create a "network" of regular, LIVE Louisiana webcams to aid in fireball spotting.

Our software goes out and "polls" these cameras when they aren't being used (8PM - 6AM), about once a second or faster. Then, the images are automatically stacked, processed, and checked for fireball activity in the morning.

All we need is the URL to the feed. No software needs to be installed.

If you operate a LIVE webcam or know of one that would be great for this, please email info@oakgroveobservatory.com

Keep in mind, not any webcam will do.

Here's the requirements:
  • LIVE Louisiana webcams only
  • Clear view of the sky, preferably filling at least a third of the image
  • Doesn't move or pan on a schedule
  • Is truly LIVE. (i.e. provides a current live image on request, not an archived one) CAMS ON WEATHERBUG ARE ARCHIVED, NOT LIVE.
  • Provides either a "refreshable" JPG image, or an MJPEG (motion JPEG) stream. My software can't handle any other type of streaming video (yet!).
Thanks for your support!
